About Sydney Hanson
Below is a little quote from the illustrator herself answering a question from one of her fans :
vibenormal: How did you become an illustrator? I’m interested in the same sort of career!
It took a lot of working on the side to become a full-time illustrator. A crucial part of it was having additional skills that I could utilize, like texture painting and 3D modelling. These skills helped me maintain full time jobs so I could work on illustration separately without stressing about money. It was easier for me to stress about finding the time to work on my illustrations rather than stressing about finding the money to do it. That being said, I didn’t know I wanted to be an illustrator until I was 25/26. I think if I’d known early on I would have taken a more direct route and gone to school for it. But at 18/19 I thought there were other things I wanted to do – like animation, vis dev and character design. It was a struggle from the start and it was amazing once I started doing traditional pencil and watercolor illustrations how things started falling into place instantly. It felt easy because I love doing it! So another piece of advice would be to try as many styles/mediums as you can until something “fits” and feels right! :) Hope this helps a little!
